Authorities say an 11-year-old boy killed his 8-year-old neighbor because she would not let him see her puppy.

It allegedly happened in Jefferson County Saturday.

Deputies found the girl on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Officials say the boy used his dad’s shotgun to kill the girl from inside a house.

No names have been released.

Three people are dead after a triple murder in East Tennessee.

The bodies of Robert Henry, Melody Henry and Barbara Hammonds were found at a home in Jonesborough.

The TBI says the suspect, Daniel Lee Henry, has been captured after checking into a hotel in New Orleans.

Tennessee’s lieutenant governor is encouraging Christians to arm themselves after the mass shooting in Oregon.

A community college gunman there reportedly singled out Christians.

In a Facebook post, Ron Ramsey said quote, “I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun cary permit.”

Democrats accuse him of fear mongering.

State officials hope to have Tennessee National Guard recruiters back in their storefront offices in Chattanooga next week.

Recruiters have been working out of armories since the attack in July. Since then security upgrades have been made to storefront recruiting offices. The military favors storefronts because they provide easier access to potential recruits.

Sources say VW installed cheating software on cars after realizing its new diesel engine, developed at great expense, could not meet pollution standards.

Rather than throw out years of work and investment, managers reportedly decided to cheat the system.

A woman is dead after a crash with a dump truck in Dalton.

Authorities say 68-year-old Harry Whitfield of Calhoun was driving with his wife Linda when they rear-ended the truck at high-speed.

Another deadly wreck happened Friday on Boy Scot Road in Hixson.

Officials say four people were involved in the single-car accident, and taken to the hospital. A baby was pronounced dead on arrival.

Both crashes remain under investigation.

Commissioner Bebe Heiskell says she thinks Walker County is a fine location for a casino.

Georgia lawmakers are considering making casinos legal in the state.

Heiskell says it would generate money for local government. The county has taken multiple loans and raised taxes over the last two years.

Heiskell initially proposed putting the casino in Mountain Cove Farms but has since backed off that suggestion.

The insurance company received the most votes in the annual Best of the Best contest.

Shaw Industries decided to give swatches away online and ask for donations to St. Jude Children’s hospital.

The company immediately ran out after thousands of requests.

Finally, Walker County has sold its ambulance service.

Commissioner Bebe Heiskell signed a five-year contract with Puckett EMS.

Puckett will cost $250,000 dollars a year from local government.

Heiskell chose Puckett over Fort Oglethorpe-based Angel EMS, which had a lower bid: $210,000 dollars per year.

But Puckett offers a cheaper rate for patients.
